Campaign History
- Kaedo settled down here in his teen years.
- He was taken in by Pearson, and lived under his roof into his 20's.
- He lived doing chores for him in return for a roof over his head, when one night, he overheard some bandits at the tavern plotting a heist.
- He notices the Innkeeper has left the counter vacant, but doesn't think much of it.

- He followed these bandits into the woods, fought some monsters, and awakened a Giant Spider. By the time he made it to the camp, the bandits were gone. (Kaedo had been spotted by what he did not know was a humunculus, which is a magical creature tied to spellcasters that spy for them. They make a good security system.)

- After searching their camp, however, he found a scribbled map marking their target, a mysterious wizard of a man named Hudson.

- He went to warn Hudson, and Hudson gave him the strange box the bandits were after.
- Hudson refuses to run away, and is presumably killed over night by the bandits, when they don't find the thing they were after.

- The next day, the Innkeeper has returned to the Inn.

- The Giant Spider Kaedo awakened starts kidnapping locals and adventurers.
- Kaedo meets Viola Brawnanvil one morning, and they nearly get run over by a spooked horse.
- The horse has a note tacked onto its saddlebags, asking for help.

- They follow the horse into the woods to the North, where they find an old abandoned well.

- The well's wall is caved in, which leads into an even older ruin, and then a cavern, where they find the Giant Spider's Lair.
- There they meet Shail, a tiefling, who they rescue. He feels indebted to them, and vows to go with them to repay the debt. They also kill the spider once and for all. Viola and Kaedo pull the spider's fangs from it's corpse, and Kaedo bottles one of the giant spider's Spiderlings as a keepsake.

- Over the night, Kaedo's curiosity gets the best of him, and while he believes the others are asleep in the Inn, he opens the box that Hudson in Sunfell had given him.
- Inside, he finds a pitch dark amulet that seems to emanate darkness. Out of fear, he quickly shuts it back inside the box. Viola was also awake at the time, and felt it, but says nothing.

- Another morning, they run into a dwarf named Koror, who is a trader. He claims that merchants are suddenly having trouble getting through to the next town, but he doesn't know why.

- He can't afford expensive mercenaries, so he hires the group to go with him to the next town.
- They head west, on the path through Montrood Forest.
- The party takes to the road through Montrood Forest from Sunfell, with Koror the dwarf.
- The trip goes particularly uneventful, until they get jumped by a group of goblins.
- Kaedo get's taken by surprise, and is quickly incapacitated. He had left the wagon to investigate up front, where he was jumped by a goblin from the shadows and slashed across the chest with a scimitar.

- Viola, Shail, and Koror work together to defeat the band of goblins.
- Viola decapitates one of them, and uses the head to scare others away. (She keeps it.)

- They go through Kaedo's belongings to look for potential items of aid, and treat him. Viola sees the box housing the amulet and is suspicious. Then they make haste for Driejas.

- On the edge of the forest, they get chased out by an evil dark energy. They aren't sure what it was, just a sense of foreboding fear they don't understand. Viola feels that it reminds her of the sensation when Kaedo opened the box in the Inn the night before, as if the life itself was being sucked out of the air.
- Once they make it into the city, they stop at the Inn and let Kaedo recover, while Shail and Viola explore the town.

- Kaedo acquires a large scar across his chest.
- While exploring the city, Shail and Viola encounter some trouble.
- The residents of the city are angry towards the local government about something.
- They find an angry mob attacking a guard. Shail uses illusion magic to divert them, and interrogates the guard.
- The guard claims that the city is angry about the hurt economy, harmed by the lack of trades coming into town.
- The guard doesn't seem to know anything else about the situation, Shail lets him go.

- Over the night, Viola and Shail have a heart to heart. She questions Shail as to why he is here, and after some reluctance, he tells her that he is looking for something.

- Kaedo finally wakes up, and they decide to set out together, so Kaedo can also see the town.
- They get interrupted by the guard they met the day before. He meets eyes with Viola and Shail, recognizing them, and goes to them for help.
- He appears to have been wounded by somebody. He tells the party that he discovered the Lord's councilor, Calvert, has been plotting against the Lord, using the trading situation to blame him and degrade his public image.
- He says the Lord is a good man, but he is in danger of uprising by the town for something he is not responsible for. He asks the party to help the him.
- He also tells the party that he was intercepted by a group of cultists that seem to be overwhelming the city, and warns them about them.
- The guard gives the party his badge, in case they need more proof to convince him.

- The party heads to Virim's Castle, to alert him, but they are cut off by Calvert, who greets them. They are unable to trick him, so Shail simply puts him to sleep with magic, before he can alert the Castle Guard.

- They rush to find Virim before they get caught, and try to explain the situation to him. Virim is shocked and betrayed, and immediately orders that Calvert be apprehended.

- Virim pleads the party to help him clear his name. He asks for the party to investigate the depths of Montrood Forest, to find the true culprit riling up the wild creatures and attacking the merchants. He believes something dark is afoot. He provides a bottle to store physical evidence within, hoping it will help him persuade the public.

- The party agrees, and sets out to investigate Montrood Forest.
- Within Montrood Forest, the party accidentally stumbles into the leaf litter hiding the tunneled lair of a horrid Grick. The beast emerges, hidden in a pile of decay and leaves as the party searches a series of deceased skeletons they find in the woods. Kaedo is the closest and the beast takes him by surprise, throwing him several feet with it's tentacles and knocking the wind out of him.
- They gather themselves and make quick work of the beast with some skilled quick thinking and team work between Kaedo and Viola, officially making them friends. Viola slides her crossbow to Kaedo to make the final blow. (it was really sick!)
- After more venturing deep into the woods, they experience the same ominous feeling of darkness they did their first day passing through here on the trip to Driejas.
- The darkness in the woods grows, and manifests itself as a sentient Shadow It becomes clear that this creature of evil is what has been the creature terrorizing merchants and driving the local creatures mad, bringing a sense of evil into the woods.
- The party attacks the creature, but in the darkness of the woods, it's a difficult battle. With problem solving skills and teamwork, however, Viola distracts the creature while Kaedo climbs into the trees to hack away foliage with his dagger, exposing the creature to the light from above.
- This weakens the Shadow, and Shail uses the magic bottle Virim provided to store it's essence inside.
